For decades, Africa’s agricultural systems have faced challenges of declining soil fertility and limited fertilizer access.
To address this, the Coalition of Implementers for Fertilizers and Soil Health (CIFSH) was established — bringing together four leading agricultural institutions: IITA, IFDC, APNI, and FARA.
CIFSH works to implement the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan (2024–2034) by strengthening regional hubs, harmonizing policy, mobilizing investment, and supporting African Union member states to restore soil productivity and ensure sustainable food systems.
We believe healthy soils are the foundation of a thriving Africa. Through collaboration and innovation, CIFSH drives sustainable agricultural transformation across the continent.
African Heads of State adopt the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan (2024–2034) and commit to restoring the continent’s soil productivity.
Four leading agricultural organizations — IITA, IFDC, APNI, and FARA — establish the Coalition of Implementers for Fertilizers and Soil Health (CIFSH) to coordinate implementation of the AFSH Action Plan.
Operational hubs launched in West Africa, East Africa, and Southern Africa to support national programs and harmonize fertilizer and soil health policies.
CIFSH continues to support African Union member states, AUDA-NEPAD, AfDB, and ECOWAS in implementing programs that strengthen soil systems, empower farmers, and promote sustainable agriculture across Africa.
CIFSH brings together leaders from Africa’s foremost agricultural institutions, working collectively to drive the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan (2024–2034) forward.
Together, these partners bridge policy, science, and private enterprise — ensuring coordinated action for sustainable fertilizer and soil health across Africa.

Healthy Soil. Prosperous Farmers. Thriving Africa.
CIFSH unites partners to advance fertilizer and soil health solutions that power Africa’s agricultural transformation.
